Personal Statement of Interest for PSR
For some positions, the government requires specific personality types to fill certain positions that can be stressful, emotionally challenging, or potentially dangerous.
Personal Statements of Interest should be structured so that each quality for which the government is looking is addressed. Words should be chosen carefully and the statement should be concise. The government receives thousands of applications for these positions and any examples that you use to build your statement should be relevant and timely. This can be a subjective, rather than an objective, task. It would be best to play up strengths and be honest about any shortcomings.
Once again, it is important to use a language similar to that which is used in the posting. For example:
"We are looking for people with experience driving red cars."
Your statement should contain:
"I have experience driving red cars."
I obtained this experience...
I have 100 hours of....
My record...
Personal Statements
You should keep emotionally charged statements out of the application and replace them with more relevant objectives.
Poor Examples:
"I want to save the world."
"I want to make a difference."
Better Examples:
"Canada has established itself as an international leader in peacekeeping… as a Canadian citizen, I can..."
